Your mention that the Sounders are underperforming xG got me thinking. And I don't observe well enough, so I'm going to spout hypothesis here and you can probably tell me whether evidence bears it out. The thing about xG is it only considers the attacker and the ball, but not where the defenders/goalkeeper are. So if the Sounders' G is lower than xG, maybe it's because while their attack is good in terms of their own positions, the opposition defenders are able to get in the way and prevent it. Maybe because the Sounders are slow to build their attack, so the defense has time to defend? Or the Sounders are predictable? I dunno, just a half-baked thought.
Hey Jeremiah, is there somewhere on here you could copy your tweets to? Or maybe I can’t find them? Back when Twitter was more reasonable I really appreciated the more current news and thoughts.
Will absolutely answer these on a future show but this is a good chance to plug that we have a regularly updated depth chart on our main Substack page.

Plausible theory and it would show up in blocked shots, I’d imagine. But they’re also underperforming xgot, which only measures shots in target.

there is a feature here called "notes" that we could post to...

So… yes, then?
Yes, it's definitely a plausible explanation. They have a third highest percentage of their shots getting blocked.
Heheh I’m not sure what this was a reply to 😂
oh whoops! Yeah, we'll try to use notes more ;)
I'll just be patient and trust in the process
